Quick Tips for Removing Common Stains

Woman Sitting

All of us at one time or another has had to discard a favorite clothing item because of a nasty stain. At Top Laundry, we have decades of experience, equipment, and products that help us to be able to remove just about any stain that can be removed.

However, if you choose not to use our wash and fold service, there is still hope! We will share helpful tips to help you remove common stains with products and equipment that is available to anyone. We’ll start with some food and drink stains:

Food and Drink Stains and How to Remove Them

  • Fruit, berries, and juices: Sponge immediately with cool water. If safe for the fabric, pour some boiling water through the stain, then work some laundry detergent into the stain by hand or use a brush and rinse thoroughly.
  • Soft drinks: Sponge in cool water and glycerin. Soak for 30 minutes, then sponge with rubbing alcohol if safe for the fabric.
  • Chocolate: Scrub the area immediately with ammonia, then wash as you normally would.
  • Fresh coffee and tea: Try using the “hot waterfall” technique – Stretch the stained part of the fabric over a bowl and secure it with rubber bands to hold it tightly in place. Put the bowl in a deep laundry tub or the bathtub to avoid getting any of the hot water on you. Then carefully pour boiling water on the stain from a height of about 2 to 3 feet. Wash the item as you normally would, using some bleach if the fabric will tolerate it.

We’ll share some other methods for some other common stains in the future. Let us know if you have success with any of these methods, and you can always use the wash and fold service at Top Laundry if you would like us to take care of all your laundry for you.
